Self-described as a painter, poet, writer, closet comedian it is on canvas that Leanne Brusatore melds a lifetime of observation and learning infused with metaphor, humour, and visual poetry in the form of mixed media paintings. An original West Coaster, Leanne spent most of her life on Vancouver Island, traveling and living for stints in various remote locations; Haida Gwaii, Alert Bay and Newfoundland.
After a multitude of careers (read: square peg-round hole syndrome) she focused her energy entirely into becoming a professional artist in 2002, and went on to pursue a diploma in fine arts and B.A. in Visual Art and Liberal Studies with a focus in ceramics and painting from 2004-2008. In 2012 she was selected to represent Canada at an International Art show in Italy and completing a residency there.
Landing on Salt Spring Island after a serendipitous series of events she eventually settled in an “intentional Eco-community in the Fulford Valley. She describes the sense of community as a place that provides an inspiring and supportive haven to dig deep and create art full-time. Works are sometimes of a serious nature reflecting on this inner journey called life. At other times playful, joyful works emerge as a sharp contrast depicting humour in the ironies of daily living and human nature.
