[editors note: Leanne Brusatore will begin a series of artist interviews, the first will be published here Sunday, July 7th.]
I was once asked to write a blog on what it was like to get ready for an Art Show, and I hesitated because, well, relating my own experiences to someone else seemed boring to me and quite frankly I was doubtful that anyone else would be interested in the details of that topic. I am far more interested in discovering the thoughts, ideas, and creative processes of other Artists from all genres.
I am curious to know what drew these individuals to Salt Spring, how the experience of living here has informed their work. I want to hear the Artist’s inner experiences, their dialogue with creativity. Not just what inspires, but what drives them to continue in spite of obstacles, pitfalls, dilemmas, successes, highlights and insights and especially the humour gained as a result of those experiences. These are the type of conversations I am interested in, the substance beneath the surface of Art so to speak.
The direction I will be taking in forthcoming posts will be to intersperse writings about this inner dialogue with interviews of Artists who are interested and willing to share the depth of their vision, intent, motivation, and drive to create. Essentially, I am mining for seeds of wisdom to bring back here to share with you in a way that shows that; Art is indeed a mirror for life reflecting information and wisdom during times of transition.
Transitioning, resolving, rendering, adapting, exploring, persevering, rejection, defeat, these are all terms familiar to the majority of Artists from all genres because these words are the bones of the characteristics it takes for one to survive and eventually thrive in a world that is slowly catching up with the idea that there needs to be new creative solutions for answers to old systematic problems. I invite you to check in next Sunday for a Feature Artist Interview, and feel free to share your comments.
