Garry & Bly Kaye
biographiesGarry Kaye was born on Salt Spring Island. He graduated from the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University) where he studied drawing, painting, and predominantly, sculpture. Garry has visited and revisited the Salt Spring Island landscape as a source of his art making. Over time, Garry has come to favour painting as his preferred mode of art making. His work twists the often overlooked mess of impenetrable underbrush to focus on the intricate yet subtle beauty the island has revealed to him.
Widely exhibited, Garry’s work has been commissioned both privately and publicly as well as finding its way into collections nationally and internationally.
Bly Kaye was born in Montreal into a family with a deeply developed artistic history. A graduate of the Vancouver School of Art, as a young teen, she moved to the Okanagan Valley and has lived on Salt Spring Island for over thirty five years. Bly is continuously inspired by her environment. For the last decade, she has explored a technique of laying down delicate paper collage and acrylic, to remarkable effect.
Delighted to fulfill a life’s dream which is working full time as an artist, Bly has taught many classes and workshops, and continues to teach. Bly Kaye’s collages are in private collections in many parts of British Columbia and across Canada. where to see or read moreshows: Garry and Bly Kaye's paintings can be viewed at Steffich Fine Art on Salt Spring Island.
