Jacqueline was born in the US and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Arts at the University of California. She moved to Canada in 1972 and raised two sons in Smithers and North Vancouver. After working in the software industry in the Vancouver area for many years she moved to Salt Spring Island in 1994 to be closer to her dream of living in the country and being a painter in the Gulf Islands. She started a bookstore (now Salt Spring Books) but sold it in 1998 to become a full-time artist. She is the wife of long time Salt Spring potter Mark Meredith.
She attended painting classes and workshops all of her life and dabbled in oil, acrylic and watercolour. After joining the Painter’s Guild when she moved to Salt Spring Island, Jacqueline took workshops given by local artists, particularly Jack Avison, and off-island artists such as Kiff Holland and Harry Heine. These watercolour artists inspired her to concentrate on this medium.
