Julie MacKinnon
biographyJulie MacKinnon’s studies in Architecture and Design have strongly influenced her award-winning work in clay. After technical studies in Architecture she ran a large Landscape Design/Build firm in Edmonton for 2 years.
A chance evening pottery class while travelling led to a ceramics residency in Hampshire. Back on Salt Spring Island, Julie apprenticed under Gary Cherneff for 2 years, after which she was top of the class in the 3 year Design program in ceramics at the Kootenay School of Art and Design. Two scholarships and The BC Crafts Association award for “Emerging Student” fuelled the fire for Julie to open her own studio to the public. Now residing with her two daughters on Salt Spring Island. where to see or read moreshows: Julie's work can be seen at her home studio and gallery which is part of the Studio Tour, or at the famous Salt Spring Island Saturday Market from April through October.
