Margie Korrison
biographyMargie was born in San Francisco and raised on the Penninsula. She was exposed to abstract art in the De Young Museum at the age of four. She has continued to enjoyed a lifelong affinity with abstraction.
Margie immigrated to Canada in 1968 to teach school on Salt Spring Island. She had a short adventure teaching school in Australia then returned to Salt Spring in 1975. As mother, designer, fabric artist and painter she joined others to facilitate the growth of the island's rich cultural community. In the 80's she created and exhibited beautiful pieced silk scarves and garments; worked on the SSI Community Arts Council; sang with Tuned Air Choral Society for 10 years. She commuted to Victoria to study painting at the Victoria College of Art for four years. Margie brought traditional Argentine Tango to Salt Spring Island in 1998.
