Ulrieke Benner is a gifted textile artist and designer living on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. She is passionate about creating vibrantly colored one-of-a-kind clothing and art pieces in wool and silk. She hand makes all the fabric herself felting the wool into silk using a wet-rolling technique. Ulrieke incorporates luxurious fibers such as alpaca, cashmere and merino silk blends for her 'Art You Wear'. With her rich color palette she produces striking, unique creations.
Having studied Textile Design in Germany and in Massachusetts, she holds a M.Ed. and BFA in Textile Design and Fiber Art. Ulrieke began felt making in the 90’s and has made it a full time career on Salt Spring Island since 2001.
Her work is sold in fine galleries and exclusive clothing boutiques internationally. She has exhibited at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Show in USA, in Canada, in Europe and will have two solo exhibitions in Japan at Jurgen Lehl, in December 2013.
Ulrieke's studio gallery from where she works and sells her original designs is open to the public year round.
